Getting started
Where is QRHop after I open it?
QRHop lives in the macOS menu bar. Look for its QR-shaped icon near the right side of the menu bar. It intentionally does not show a Dock icon or conventional main window.
How do I show a QR code?
Copy text or a link, then press the default ⇧⌘2 shortcut. You can also choose “Show Clipboard QR Code” from the QRHop menu.
What can I turn into a QR code?
QRHop works with clipboard text, including URLs, addresses, short notes, commands, and identifiers. Extremely long content may exceed QR-code capacity; when that happens, shorten the content and try again.
Keyboard shortcut
How do I change the shortcut?
Open the QRHop menu and choose “Shortcut Settings…”. Select the recorder, then press the combination you want to use.
Why was my shortcut rejected?
The shortcut may already be registered by another app, or it may conflict with a dangerous macOS combination such as log out or lock screen. QRHop keeps your previous shortcut when a new one cannot be registered safely.
The shortcut does nothing. What should I try?
First choose “Show Clipboard QR Code” from the QRHop menu. If that works, another app may be intercepting the shortcut. Open Shortcut Settings and record a different combination. Quitting and reopening the conflicting app can also help.
QR codes and the panel
Why didn’t a QR code appear?
Make sure the clipboard contains text. Images, files, and unsupported clipboard formats are not converted. Copy a short piece of text and try the menu command to separate a clipboard problem from a shortcut conflict.
My phone cannot scan the QR code.
Keep the entire code visible, avoid covering its white margin, and move the phone slightly farther from the screen. Screen glare, very low brightness, or highly dense codes can make scanning harder. Shortening long content usually produces a simpler code.
How do I close the QR panel?
Press Esc, select the visible close button, press your QRHop shortcut again, or click outside the panel.
How do I copy or save the QR image?
Use “Copy QR Code” to place the generated image on your clipboard. Choose “Save…” to open the standard macOS save panel and write a PNG only to the location you select.
Privacy and compatibility
Does QRHop upload my clipboard?
No. Clipboard content and QR-code generation stay on your Mac. QRHop has no account, analytics, advertising, tracking, or cloud service. See the Privacy Policy for the complete explanation.
Does QRHop require internet access?
No internet connection is required to generate or display a QR code. Your phone may need internet access afterward if the code contains an online URL.
Which macOS versions are supported?
QRHop requires macOS 13 Ventura or later.
